MENTAL HEALTH WITH HORSES
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a best practice model of therapy. It is a collaborative effort between the clients, horses, a mental health professional, and an equine specialist. The client’s mental health treatment goals, objectives, and interventions are the focus. Sessions are structured around the client’s needs and intentions. Time is given for the client to work with the horses, either independently or collaboratively, on the ground.
Individuals, ages 5 and up, and groups of any size are given an opportunity to experience and learn from the horses. You do not have to be familiar with horses OR even like them to have a powerful session. There is NO riding.
Clients have attested to the fact that one EAP session can access the same content as years of traditional therapy. Lessons have a deeper meaning when you can see, touch, and smell what is happening!
EMDR WITH A HORSE
EMDR with Horses has the ability for client’s to access and process through traumas. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) encourages a client to focus on their traumatic memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, which is associated with a reduction in the vividness. This therapeutic tool enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. During EMDR, the therapist works with the client to identify a specific problem as the focus of the treatment session. The client calls to mind the disturbing issue or event, what was seen, felt, heard, thought, etc., and what thoughts and beliefs are currently held about that event.
The horses provide a unique support for clients while processing these difficult memories/experiences, often providing an even deeper level of healing and grounding. The human mind, similar to the horses mind, can rest, do, react, respond, then return to a place of rest. However, once the brain has experienced trauma energy becomes locked in the body and the central nervous system can not return to rest. People often remain on alert with a fight, flight, fawn or freeze response, causing anxiety. Humans are taught to repress hard emotions or experiences, yet our body wants to heal and release.
Horses are fight vs. flight animals and return to rest automatically. They understand, see, and stand with traumatized clients as they revisit their memories, remaining still and calm. EMDR with Horses reconnects the client with their core, or true self, allowing the natural healing powers of the brain to move through and past the traumatic experience.
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) incorporates horses experientially for personal/professional growth and team-building. It is a collaborative effort between the horses, a mental health professional, an equine specialist, and a certified leadership coach. We work with the clients to achieve specific goals, personal transformation, and business development.
Equine Assisted Learning, a non-traditional approach, is solidly growing in popularity. The opportunity for employees to step out of the office, interact with horses THEN interpret their own experiences is enlightening. This experience increases personal awareness, thus improving team dynamics.
The purpose of team building is to transform individuals into a cohesive team. A team of people organized to work together interdependently and for a common goal. The time spent with the horses motivates your team to work together, identify strengths, improve productivity, and expand exponentially!
REIKI ON THE HILL
Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of natural hands-on, energy-based healing for stress reduction, relaxation, and physical and emotional healing. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy” – translates to “spiritually guided life force energy.”
Developed in the early 1900’s by Mikao Usui, it is now utilized in the healing all over the world, including in every-day-life, hospitals, hospices, and even in the Military for PTSD to complement other forms of health treatments. Reiki does not replace the care physician or a psychotherapist, however it does complement other types of treatment options. It increases the efficacy of healing.
Reiki on the Hill sessions are 60 minutes and can be experiences in the office, on different locations around the farm, on your animals OR even from a distance. Clients lie on a massage table fully clothed, as I gently place my hands, palms down, on or just above your body in different locations. I am simply a conduit between the source of the universal life force energy and my clients. Reiki always works for your highest good, never causing harm.
We will set the intention for your time, balancing all chakras and enhancing your body’s ability to heal. I close your session with Kat Su Ke Ko Can, a Japanese rejuvenated healing experience. My intention is for you to leave the farm feeling energetically physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually balanced.
